Just a short drive from New York City and Philadelphia, the island has played host to summer visitors for more than one hundred years. Since the mid-1800's the Barnegat Lighthouse, on the north end of the island, has offered a beautiful aerial view of the Barnegat Bay, with its busy inlet for fishing, sport and sail boats enhancing the nautical experience. The south end of the island is lined with Victorian guest houses and even a small, off-Broadway, theatre. This shore community,
with its small-town flavor, is full of amusements and shopping for families.
Dining at the shore, one can enjoy a fresh catch prepared by a gourmet
